Speaking of Change…

472-be-the-change-1400My dad was heading back to my house on Wednesday morning after visiting with family in Hudson, NY and he somehow managed to bottom out his car going over a railroad crossing. His smashed oil pan caused him to change his plans, and make a detour by way of a tow truck to a garage in Catskill NY…

He wasn’t planning on spending several more days hanging out at my house…  Had to change his plans…

Change…

It’s everywhere… and usually when you least expect it.

One of the cool tools that I use in my own life and teach to all of my clients and students is the classic NLP reframe that I call, “What if this is perfect?”
(I even wrote a little book about it that you can get on Amazon.com “What if It’s Perfect?: A Simple Course In Making Your Life Magical”)

It’s simply changing the context of meaning of something negative to make it positive. That’s it. Simple.

You can get upset by stuff that happens unexpectedly or you can re-imagine it as bringing a “hidden benefit” that just hasn’t been revealed yet.

There’s a quote from the  Course in Miracles that helps me.

“You do not always know what is in your best interest”

Just because you can’t see it at the moment doesn’t mean it doesn’t support you in your ultimate success.

For example my dad and I were talking about it and I pointed out, “you know if it helps, consider that this “delay” or “inconvenience” might have saved your life. If you had gone a different route home or somehow crossed the RR tracks without incident, you might have been in a huge accident on the NYS Thruway or had rock fall off of a road cut somewhere along your drive or a chunk of ice could have fallen off an 18 wheeler and hit your windshield etc….

On the surface that logic sounds like a “justification” or a “PollyAnna” response…

But it is actually true. You will never know. The point is, shifting how you feel about any given situation is the ultimate personal power. It makes you feel lucky rather than victimized.

To his credit my dad was pretty chill about the whole thing. He chose to focus on the fact that he was fine, the car was fixable and he wasn’t somewhere way out in the middle of nowhere without anybody to stay with for several days…

And by the way this is not me PREACHING at you about this.

This is Me reminding MYSELF about this. I HAVE TO USE THIS A LOT because my old default program was typically to exaggerate and “catastroph-a-size” seemingly negative events and use them to prove to myself that I could never win, could never get ahead, could never get a break, whatever…

And this stuff really helps to shift things. I feel that I owe it to YOU to share this not because it’s “nice” not because it’s “positive” but because it truly helps.

So this is a discipline. This is not always easy to do. But it truly helps to put stuff into perspective and move on with your day, your week, your life…

So, you mind mastery message and assignment today (should you choose to accept it), is to take note of anything in your life that seems to not be going very well at the moment, and re-interpret it as positive in some way. You might even want to write out or say out loud, “Why does this work out better than I could possibly imagine?” or “Why is this actually a blessing in disguise, a cloud with a silver lining, a bullet dodged?”  And since it’s still Thanksgiving weekend, how can you feel grateful for this change?

Got it? Good!

Moment of Truth

We’ve all experienced it at some time or another…

When it’s make it or break it.

Now or never.

Do or “die”.

Play ball or go home.

Shit or get off the pot.

Put the pedal to the metal.

Burn  your boats.

Burn your Bridges.

“Shatter the patterns and leave the past behind”

It’s time  my friend…

To get SERIOUS.

About what?

Oh YOU know what… Don’t you?

That thing that you think you would like to change…

You know what you want to change. Many people want to change. But most people can never seem to make changes “stick”.

There may be many reasons why people don’t change. But there is definitely one thing that stops a lot of transformation from happening…

It’s all about the “Moment of Truth”.

You see, until you convince your unconscious mind that there is no more wiggle room, no more weaseling out of the change you want to make, you will be like MOST of the people who want to lose weight, stop smoking, get fit, get relief from anxiety and stress, make more money, succeed at dating and relationships, and generally “nail it” on the big stages or playing fields of their lives…

A wanna be.

(Been there. Done that. None of us are immune from it at any level.)

And I know you don’t want to be a wanna be.

You want to be somebody who can take charge of every area of your life and master it.

Am I right?

The moment of truth…

…When for a clear, decisive instant we stop bullshitting ourselves and admit that we alone are responsible for the challenge in front of us.

No one is going to make you make the change.

No one is going to say anything or even notice if you just kind of… stay the way you are… there is no one to be accountable to except yourself.

And it’s time. It’s time to dig deep into your own power and determination and be so bold as to fvcking go for it, isn’t it?

When people find out I’m a master practitioner and trainer of hypnosis, they almost universally ask, “Can you MAKE me stop smoking or “Can you MAKE me stop eating junk so I can lose weight?”

Nope.

I cant make you change and I can’t make the changes for you, but I sure as hell can help you to get your mind in the right place to make that powerful decision. To get to your moment of truth.

And then I can give you a massive array of tools you can use immediately to run your own mind. Faster. Easier. Better.

But there are no guarantees except YOURS. The one you set up for yourself.

And BTW “Faster” doesn’t guarantee that it’s going to be fast.

“Easier” doesn’t guarantee that it will be easy.

But it will be faster, easier, and better with the tools you’ll learn here than if you keep doing what you’ve been doing in the past.

So when you’re ready to go deeper, you’ll find some powerful tools here to help you help yourself Master Your Mind For A change…

Of course, you have to be ready. You may not be ready even if you think you are.

I set out to find my abs at least 5 years ago. To this point they have remained safely hidden behind a bit o belly fat.

I did have a moment of truth Fall of 2014 that It was a MUST to lose 20 pounds.  And I did.  And I feel great. And I’m building muscle, moving my body, healthy, happy to be wearing a size smaller pants… in other words I went as far as my “moment of truth” from last year could carry me.  And so while I’m a lot  more fit and trim than last year, I want more.

I want to see my damn abs! I DEMAND to see them.

 And now it’s MY moment of truth.

To put up or shut up. To walk my talk. To publicly declare 2016 as my “year of the abs”… To do so publicly is to “force accountability”.  But it also gives me an opportunity to invite others like you to join me for whatever your personal goal or goals are for 2016. We can do whatever we truly want to do.

This COULD be your moment of truth. Are you in? Let me know ok?

What is it you want? What is it you’ve been saying you want but haven’t actually actualized in your life or personality or behavior?

It definitely helps to know what that is… LOL

But let’s say you DO know what you want, but you’re not really sure you’re ready to actually have it.  How do you get your self to stop resisting and spewing out excuses and self pity and COMMIT to get there sooner instead of wasting all that time getting ready to get ready to change?…

It comes down to a big enough “why” that you can sustainably hold in your mind that communicates, no, relentlessly BROADCASTS to your Unconscious Mind that there is no way out except through. There is no way home except forwards. It’s creating enough leverage in your own mind so that going back is not an option. The only way out is moving forwards through all of the objections, and old standby excuses. And then there are some additional steps and mindsets that help you to KEEP the momentum going once you decide to “go all in” for your goal. And once you’ve committed to your action and started taking action, how to make it fun. How to make sure you actually notice progress that will keep you moving forwards, even one single step at a time.

Why do you want to change the thing you want to change?

And is that enough to motivate you?

or is there something else that when added to the mix will cause you to crank it up and COMMIT?

The Power of Focus

You might not Believe this….

But Today is Friday morning and I have not left my house since Sunday night…

I KNOW!

Who is this crazy man?!?

RIGHT?

I mean I DID go outside and work in my garden… I DID go for walks.
But mostly I worked on an “assignment”

I was given an assignment by my own “mentor” or “coach” or whatever you want to call him…”Trusted Advisor”? Yeah I like THAT… Trusted advisor… mmmm. Good.

And I fully embraced and accepted his suggestion that I create something fabulous for you all…

And that assignment was to create a series of emails and videos that invite new subscribers into the Transformation Nation Fold in a way that inspires them and helps them understand their minds as well as teaches some of the core, foundation concepts that we here in this “community of consciousness” that I call “The Transformation Nation”… practice and live by every day.

The point I’ve been making all along is that you my friend are different.

Different in a good way from the 99% of the tranced out ‘average’ people that you see on the street eating donuts, fast food and watching TV, shopping for shiny shit at the mall or whatever…

What makes us different is the fact that we are doing our best to

WAKE up to the possibilities that are present in ALL HUMAN BEINGS

but that MOST HUMAN BEINGS…

well….

IGNORE and AVOID at all cost…

Their FABULOUSNESS and even GREATNESS!

Not you. You’re on the path. The path with heart. You are waking up and rocking and rolling with the knowledge… the APPLIED knowledge THAT YOU CREATE YOUR OWN REALITY WITH YOUR THOUGHTS…

One key piece of that path is finding a community of other people who are striving to release the “blocks”, clear the crap,  overcome the limiting beliefs and childhood vows as well as life long habits that no longer serve us…

Which if you missed it, covered one of our key foundational concepts of “Getting to Cause.”
In other words getting out of the prevalent “victim” mode.

She writes:

Had a great day yesterday and today raging anxiety and feel like shit.

Jut listened to “cause and effect.” Does cause come first, then effect?

I know today I am playing the victim because of the fear of the fear
in my body. As you say. Anxiety is literally THINKING about what
I do not want to have happen in the future-THATS IT!!

My body, my subconscious mind experiences me focusing on bad shit and
responds by triggering the fight or flight response. None of it matters
if I can’t stop thinking like a VICTIM.

I “get” that I “created” this and if I don’t like this that means I can create
something better starting right now.

Mark I am so tired of feeling so unwell one day and good the next.

I smell “victim”.

Any ideas for me?  Really focused on what I don’t want.

My answer:

My dear Linda, first of all you SMELL FABULOUS! What is that? Sea Breeze? Patchouli? There’s a certain freshness about you… with a hint of Autumn Leaves and a splash of wood smoke…

FABULOUS! Pause while I deeply inhale YOUR FABULOUSNESS!

I love it when people like you (and me) have the GUTS and the courage to look at their old patterns and realize something is ready to change… cowabungah! good for you. AWESOME!

Und Now To answer your question.

Now… here’s the deal my friend, You are on to it.

You are soo On To IT.

When we focus on what we do NOT want, your amazing and sensitive UNCONSCIOUS MIND thinks that it is actually HAPPENING RIGHT NOW.

It can not discern the difference between what is “real” and what is IMAGINED. That’s why you can be sitting feeling fine and all of a sudden have a thought about something bad that could happen and BOOOM! You get a jolt of those “fight or flight” hormones that pull you OUT of your conscious rational thinking and put you on ALERT.

That’s one of the reason I constantly challenge you to focus on what you want instead of what you don’t want.

Either way, your unconscious mind will do it’s best to give you what you focus on. It can not discern between “good” or “bad”.

So if you don’t know what you want…

​You have to start with what you don’t want and then STOP.

Consciously turn it around to find what you DO WANT.

Example: Pretty much every smoker I’ve ever worked with would say, “I don’t want to smell like cigarette smoke.”

And I would have to say, “Well what DO you want?”

A lot of times they wouldn’t even “get” that.

“Huh? What do you mean?” they’d ask.

And I’d have to repeat it. “What DO you want?”

“Well,” they’d stop and think for a moment, “I want to smell fresh and clean. Like laundry that dried in the
fresh air.”

Do you see the difference?

You can’t hold the image of fresh, clean laundry drying in a sunny, summer breeze in your mind… without letting go of the other, old idea of what you don’t want…

Does that make sense? Sometimes I prefer to focus on Puppies and Kittens… and other cute wittle baby animals…

or I focus on YOU living the life of YOUR dreams!

So if you don’t want to feel “anxiety” [which is actually ​literally thinking about what you do not want to have happen in the future]

What DO YOU WANT TO HAVE HAPPEN IN THE FUTURE?

​Do you want to be calm and relaxed?
What would THAT be like?

You see, we CAN’T hold two thoughts in our minds at the same time…

Here’s a “neutral”  example from my life…

I recently got a new car which is a 6 speed manual…

Reverse is in a different place from where I’m used to finding it…

One day at a traffic light I accidentally put it in reverse when I meant to put it in FIRST GEAR….

it was no big deal because I was stopped… BUT BECAUSE I was [notice the conscious use of the past tense] a life long anxiety sufferer…

(and because this shit takes constant practice)

I IMMEDIATELY IMAGINED ​ACCIDENTALLY PUTTING MY damn CAR IN REVERSE AT THE WORST POSSIBLE TIME (like at highway speeds) AND DESTROYING MY NEW TRANSMISSION…

I literally had to emphatically say OUT LOUD…

“STOP! Focus on what you want Mark…”

BOOM! I consciously focused on driving safely.

Driving well.

Driving my car easily and enjoyably, knowing exactly what gear I’m in… My car happy with my loving hands caressing the steering wheel and shifter thing, directing it into the perfect gears…

vroom, vroom… and oh! look at the pretty leaves!

And is THAT  a red tailed hawk?

The point is that our FOCUS is always changeable by US.

Any focus that doesn’t make you feel good is simply habit. Change your focus.

And the time has come to begin to change that habit with love, and firmness. Persistently. Consistently. Compulsively (:o)

So Today, Linda (and all the rest of us) Let’s concisely focus on what we want…

one easy way to do that is to

a. decide what you want.
​b. pop what you want into a why question…

“Why do I choose the right gears when I drive my car?”

or for you Linda (and the rest of us who are right there with you working on this stuff)
“Why do I choose to focus my mind on….” then fill in the blank

a. Why to I choose to focus my mind on what I want?
b. Why to I choose to focus my mind on what I’m grateful for?
c. Why to I choose to focus my mind on what’s good in my life?
d. Why to I choose to focus my mind on how much Mark Shepard  believes in me? :o)
e. Why to I choose to focus my mind on how much I love and adore my awesome self?

I hope that helps…

If not, Why do you FOCUS on it HELPING?! Why do you Imagine it helping?!

More About Change

37946670_mWell, last night was the night. The first frost. BOOM.

Summer.

Done.

DING!

NEXT ADVENTURE…

We are SERIOUSLY on our way to WINTER.

It’s more change.

Significant change. Can’t avoid it or deny it anymore. It’s getting cold here in Albany NY.

So folks will start to complain.

Have you ever complained about the weather?

Aw come on, admit it. We all do… we AWL complain about the weather.

Today, however, let’s just take a deep, transformation nation breath and…

EMBRACE the change.

Let’s play with the idea of this being “perfect”. One of my favorite mind mastery techniques is to ask myself, “Why is THIS perfect?”

And it is really. The Earth has reached the place in it’s orbit where we in the northern hemsiphere are on the way to the farthest away from the SOURCE of all our WARMTH.

It helps to remember we are on a spaceship. This beautiful planet with it’s clear blue sky is HOME in the midst of the vastness of space.

Why is this perfect? Why do you love crisp cool, even cold weather? And if you don’t, at least you can be grateful for the amazing invention of HOUSES! CLOTHING! WARM FOOD!

Hell, right now as my furnace turns on for the first time this season, I’m grateful for the invention of FIRE!

We’ve come a long way baby from hunkering down in some dark, moist cave clothed in a few crusty animal skins! LOL

Today I want to share with you a short video I made yesterday that will be my “gift” to new folks who join us here at the “TRANSFORMATION NATION”,  I wanted to offer a significant, Mind Mastery Tool or Technique to folks who are on the path with heart, searching and seeking a community of people who are seeking more than just to “fit in” with the prevailing trend of cubicle slaves all striving to be good little rule followers.

We have rules here at HonestHypnosis.com but they’re different kinds of rules.

They aren’t “be nice no matter what” rules, or “fit in and be like everybody else” rules.

They are more like, “be true to your greatest version of yourself” and “challenge your comfort zone” rules.

Guidelines really.

One rule I’ve made. One major commitment I’ve made (among several) is to reach out to you in some positive, significant way, each and every day. It may be a new song like yesterday. It may be a week long series of videos or blog posts exploring a transformational topic. It may be me answering your questions or even creating a new course based on what’s really going on with YOU.

But every day. Nothing else gets done until I send you my honest email filled with actual helpful thoughts and ideas. Not sure if you’ve been to many other hypnosis websites lately. Most of them are all about selling you mediocre “hypnosis downloads” or some other vaguely helpful baloney.

Here? It’s about something else. Something bigger. Something deeply and consistently honest.

This place is all about OUR TRANSFORMATION. And I include myself in there because that’s what I’m all about. I will NEVER ask you to do something that I have not already explored and tested as being helpful and worthy of your time and attention. I’m my first “guinea pig”.

I’m here to walk my talk and dance my own path with heart. It changes and grows. It involves multiple interests and talents. It involves a passionate commitment to make a positive difference in as many lives on this little blue planet as I can congruently and ecologically reach, teach, challenge, inspire, encourage, coach.

Since the new folks will get this video automatically when they join Honest Hypnosis I wanted YOU to have it as well.

Write out “Why Does It Work Out Better Than I Can Possibly Imagine?” at least ten times by hand with a pen and a piece of actual paper.

chant it inside your head as you go about your day. Keep track of how your day goes. NOTICE when things ACTUALLY do work out better than you could possibly imagine. Promises To Yourself

hh-10-08-promise-ss2cropMy dad has an old saying that he loves to repeat. I think he heard his grandfather say it…

“Always keep your promises, but be damn careful what you promise!”

Pretty good advice. And definitely better than making a bunch of promises to people that you fail to honor.

The challenge arises though, when we make promises to ourselves that we don’t keep. There’s no one but US to know that we didn’t honor our promise. Ultimately though it’s the commitments we make to ourselves that we KEEP that propel us forward towards our dreams.

Keep Your Promises To Yourself

(AND be careful to make INTELLIGENT, fulfillable Promises).

BTW Maybe you prefer to call them “resolutions”. But it’s not the new year yet. And no one keeps “New Year’s Resolutions” anyway. This is just for today. So no pressure. This can be easy. Simple. Kaizen baby!

Your assignment today (should you choose to accept it) is to make a small and VERY KEEPABLE promise to yourself. And then keep that promise. Fulfill that promise.

I like that phrase: Fulfill your promise. Perhaps you can start asking yourself a Why question…

“Why do I keep my promises to myself?”
