Speaking of Change…

472-be-the-change-1400My dad was heading back to my house on Wednesday morning after visiting with family in Hudson, NY and he somehow managed to bottom out his car going over a railroad crossing. His smashed oil pan caused him to change his plans, and make a detour by way of a tow truck to a garage in Catskill NY…

He wasn’t planning on spending several more days hanging out at my house…  Had to change his plans…

Change…

It’s everywhere… and usually when you least expect it.

One of the cool tools that I use in my own life and teach to all of my clients and students is the classic NLP reframe that I call, “What if this is perfect?”
(I even wrote a little book about it that you can get on Amazon.com “What if It’s Perfect?: A Simple Course In Making Your Life Magical”)

It’s simply changing the context of meaning of something negative to make it positive. That’s it. Simple.

You can get upset by stuff that happens unexpectedly or you can re-imagine it as bringing a “hidden benefit” that just hasn’t been revealed yet.

There’s a quote from the  Course in Miracles that helps me.

“You do not always know what is in your best interest”

Just because you can’t see it at the moment doesn’t mean it doesn’t support you in your ultimate success.

For example my dad and I were talking about it and I pointed out, “you know if it helps, consider that this “delay” or “inconvenience” might have saved your life. If you had gone a different route home or somehow crossed the RR tracks without incident, you might have been in a huge accident on the NYS Thruway or had rock fall off of a road cut somewhere along your drive or a chunk of ice could have fallen off an 18 wheeler and hit your windshield etc….

On the surface that logic sounds like a “justification” or a “PollyAnna” response…

But it is actually true. You will never know. The point is, shifting how you feel about any given situation is the ultimate personal power. It makes you feel lucky rather than victimized.

To his credit my dad was pretty chill about the whole thing. He chose to focus on the fact that he was fine, the car was fixable and he wasn’t somewhere way out in the middle of nowhere without anybody to stay with for several days…

And by the way this is not me PREACHING at you about this.

This is Me reminding MYSELF about this. I HAVE TO USE THIS A LOT because my old default program was typically to exaggerate and “catastroph-a-size” seemingly negative events and use them to prove to myself that I could never win, could never get ahead, could never get a break, whatever…

And this stuff really helps to shift things. I feel that I owe it to YOU to share this not because it’s “nice” not because it’s “positive” but because it truly helps.

So this is a discipline. This is not always easy to do. But it truly helps to put stuff into perspective and move on with your day, your week, your life…

So, you mind mastery message and assignment today (should you choose to accept it), is to take note of anything in your life that seems to not be going very well at the moment, and re-interpret it as positive in some way. You might even want to write out or say out loud, “Why does this work out better than I could possibly imagine?” or “Why is this actually a blessing in disguise, a cloud with a silver lining, a bullet dodged?”  And since it’s still Thanksgiving weekend, how can you feel grateful for this change?

Got it? Good!

Dealing with Change

Cuz things are DEFINITELY gonna change.

Today’s post is about using NLP & self hypnosis to deal with change. Start surfing change instead of being pounded by it…more about that in a moment… but first this last minute announcement:

In case you’re not up on this stuff, Rufus Wainwright is the guy who sang Leonard Bernstein’s “Hallelujah” in the movie “Shrek” and took it to a whole new level of intensity)…

Und Now back to today’s Mind Mastery Message and Transformation Tune…

There are three main constants in ALL of our lives.

Death. Taxes. And CHANGE.

“Ewwwww! Do we HAVE to tawk about this today Mark?”

Yup. We gots tah my little Jedi Mind Masters in training…

We are now living at a time in human history where change is a constant and never ending challenge to our neurologies…

Some of us just got used to the fact that our smartphones can now do about 100 times more stuff than the mainframe computers that put men on the moon…

Some of us just figured out how to use Facebook.

And google…

and email…

and now our new cars don’t even have CD players in them… Sheesh!

Now instead of calling a taxi and waiting 20 minutes we can call an Uber on our smartphone and literally TWO MINUTES later our ride arrives…

Stuff is changing FAST.

And it looks like that’s the way it’s going to be. Each innovation and new level of technological sophistication leads to an exponential expansion in multiple areas of our lives…

My idea is that by embracing our own process of adaptation and transformation YOU AND I can drive our OWN change and take charge of our own change so that we are no longer victims of change.

We need to learn how to SURF change. To use it for our own well being and benefit.

And that starts with how you use your mind.

My world this Thanksgiving weekend is very, very, very different from the way it was LAST thanksgiving…

We are also coming up on the New Year and our next 90 day challenge… So Today, this weekend, the next 30 days or so is a good time to start reflecting and directing ourselves towards more of what we desire for ourselves, our lives, our health, our wealth, our relating, our well being and this thing we are calling “the path with heart”.

Your Mind Mastery Mission today, (should you choose to accept it) is to take a few moments to sit quietly with a pen and paper or a smart phone or laptop and jot down some of the differences in your life between last Thanksgiving weekend and THIS thanksgiving… And pay particular attention to what has IMPROVED.

Remember? We get what we focus on. So focus on what’s getting better in your life. That’s it.

Trauma & Anxiety Are LINKED

Today’s Mind Mastery Daily is about the connection between Trauma (one time learning events in the past) and Anxiety (imagining what you do not want to have happen in the future)

Trauma and anxiety are deeply linked neurological processes. But they are CLEAR-ABLE!

Hypnosis for PTSD must include conscious tools for clearing old beliefs, childhood vows, and limiting decisions we made about the world as children…

It’s time to stop running old beliefs that “program” you to be fearful, weak, frustrated, and small. And time to start installing bigger, better, more useful beliefs… like, “Why am I more powerful than I can possibly imagine?” [sound FX of Lion roaring!]

Transformation Tune for Today: Song # 161 Beautiful Person (version #2)

This is the 2nd version I recorded of “Beautiful Person”.

The first one is from Visions & Voices CD and was arranged by Gene Moore. This version is a very simple “chant” that includes some significant shifts in language inspired by the field of Neuro Linguistics. Most notable is the shift into the past tense.

So, “I can not love you if I hate myself” became, “I could not love you when I hated myself”.

The past tense pre-supposes that I no longer hate myself… see how it works? Even the subtlest of language patterns can free us from our old patterns and stories or keep us stuck.

This is another one of those songs to listen to repeatedly for its potential to get “stuck” in your head… and do some good in there… :o)

BTW I actually did have a dream where there was a lion coming up out of the bathtub drain! It scared me awake from a deep slumber. As I lay there in the dark it occurred to me that the lion represented my own true power. And that it was time to stop running away from it.
