Your Headline Here

I never really know what the subject line or the headline should be until after I write the post… So why do I keep attempting to come up with them FIRST?

Because MailChimp, the email system I use, ASKS for subject lines and headlines FIRST. And I usually start typing THERE before I paste it all HERE… I do that because I know a lot about the people who are on my email list…

…And it helps to have an audience in mind when communicating ideas…

And I COMPLY with friendly, helpful MailChimp by attempting to fit into THEIR agenda. It’s just easier. They make it easier by gently putting a deadline on an action. Do it now! Here! Just fill in this little blank right now… right now. right now… do this now…

It works. AND it’s a form of every day “hypnosis”.

Do you see how “hypnosis” is all pervasive? We are constantly being “guided” by other people’s “agendas” or “programs” for us.

And for the most part we LIKE it. It’s not some “evil plan”. It’s helpful. [Yes… my email list is helpful and free]

We like it because deciding what to do all the time is EXHAUSTING. But this is one key clue to what’s constantly going on beneath the surface of “us”.

Your conscious mind thinks it’s in control but it is always TRUMPED by your unconscious mind’s constantly seeking direction for what to do next… It either comes from your conscious mind or it’s going to come from somewhere else… the media, your family, your friends, your neighbors, (not that any of that is bad, it’s not “bad” its just constantly slipping through your “filters” and affecting you without your conscious awareness and my whole deal is that I help people to be Modern Jedi Mind Masters by teaching them how to see the actual “Matrix” of the world we live in so compliently).

So today, don’t do anything that I tell you to do.
Don’t do anything that I merely suggest you do.
In fact don’t do anything that anyone else wants you to do…

Until YOU decide you want to do it.

That’s what I’m working on today. It all started when the cashier at the store told me to “have a nice holiday”. And I told her, “I will if I want to!” And it’s only the first week of December so can’t we wait at least another week to start with all the Xmas stuff? Sheesh…

end of short rant.
Oh! Where was I? Oh yes!

Attempting to be clear about what I really want to do today… Because there’s a ton of stuff that HAS to happen today… But what I really feel like doing is just lazing around the house… So I figured I’d write some of these thoughts down in the process of checking one thing off the to do list and possibly getting a couple others done at the same time… and it just irked me for some reason that before I have any idea what I’m gonna write about these darn “Mail Chimps” want to know what my dang subject line and headline is…

And I do NOT have a clue… And you know what else? The hardest part of writing or of starting ANY project is actually STARTING… but Once you take a deep breath and start something, it begins to line up priorities  for you.. in the same way… So hey, whatever gets you started…

And if just riffing about something totally inane and un related to anything gets the creative juices going then you might want to give that a try sometime… but only if you want to…

And all that brings me to today’s “HEADLINE” (remember the whole thing about the “headline” up there at the top?)

And if your process requires that you shake things up every once in a while that may mean challenging the existing order, questioning authority and stepping back out of the “matrix” of everyday life for a few moments… for me, that means today I’m putting the headline LAST.

And I’m skipping the “subject” line until I’m damn well ready to put something INTRIGUING in it…

For YOU it may mean turning off the TV for the rest of the day, or your cell phone (gasp!) or ignoring your constant texts and emails for an hour or two… or until YOU are ready to have clear thoughts and a centered approach to your day… Hell don’t even bother listening to the awesome song I’m sharing with you below. Unless you have the desire to tune your inner world more with my help.

I told you what to do by telling you to feel free NOT to do anything I suggest…

Whatever you do, Don’t have a fabulous day… unless you simply insist on having a fabulous day.

Here’s an inspirational picture I would normally put up at the top of the post, of someone doing something really intense and cool that you and I will probably never do but that we think we could do if we wanted but the truth is we don’t want to climb rocks because we know we could really, really, really get hurt and that would be dumb.

But then we stop ourselves from doing other things that we THINK could hurt us but that would be GOOD for us if only we would take a deep breath and be honest with ourselves you know?

Burning The Boats

Is It Time? Are You Ready To Burn Your Boats?

This song may help you to get ready to get ready for your moment of truth…

There is a long, dramatic story behind this song which I won’t bore you with.

Suffice it to say it came out of a pretty intense personal conflict in a business relationship I was in that started out promising and then devolved into a massive exercise in ego… And it wasn’t just my business partner’s ego and attachment. I own my piece of the dysfunction.

But the the “moment of truth” here is that ultimately we don’t have time to waste on that crap!

We ALL have only a limited “engagement” here on the stage of life.

Military leaders have understood for thousands of years that warriors with their backs to the sea and no way to get back home other than fight to survive, WILL put absolutely EVERYTHING into the “task at hand”.

The real question is “What can YOU do today in YOUR life that you’ve been putting off because it’s too big, too crazy, too ‘this’ or ‘that?'” What escape routes do you need to close so you will do today what you’ve been putting off?

Be Patient With Your Drumming

I have absolutely nothing to say today.

It’s just that good of a day. It’s perfect.

It’s kind of like one of those, “drumming on the beach” kind of days except it’s November in Albany NY…

It’s a blissful day just…

… Following the flow. You know, “surfing” through my day… ;o)

[ an inside joke alert for you loyal, DAILY readers/watchers out there in the Rapidly growing Transformation Nation ]

Working on some projects.

Washing up my dishes after each of my fabulously healthy meals… grass fed burger with raw smoked cheddar, baby bok choy and cabbage on the side. Followed by a grapefruit and avocado salad… Mmmmmm…

Following the flow…

Watching my neighbors new garage being built…

Exploring a new “back friendly” abs exercise…

Straightening up the work bench in the basement…

Having a brilliant cup of coffee and reading one of my favorite books… Ahhhh…

Writing to you… my favorite part of the day… All in all its….

The Best “video game” I ever played.

And I love how I can change the program on the fly…

By thinking different thoughts… or doing something out of my normal routines…

Why doesn’t someone invent a video game that forces you to think positively?

The better you think, the more things go your way, or maybe you just start to believe that things are going your way more and so things go your way more and you interpret everything as things going your way more and more and so the self fulfilling prophecy unfolds in ways that are better, more satisfying, more magical than you could even possibly imagine…

Thinking positively isn’t just NICE. It just plain works better. It feels better in your body. It feels better to be around someone who is grateful and positive and optimistic unless  you’re in such a shitty mood that you’re looking for company to be miserable with.

But I say Fvck THAT!

And BTW saying “fvck That!” is a POSITIVE expletive. It reflects the POSITIVE PASSION I feel for this subject. :o)

Now Where WERE we?

If you have negative, whiny, victim friends, I highly suggest you GET OUT of their energy fields. We become the company we keep.

That’s not a “judgment” about them. They are perfectly, perfect beings, radiant light with awareness, having a human experience just like you. You are not better or more important than they are. It’s just that you, unlike them, are attempting to grow, improve, release, heal, expand, and enhance your experience of being alive. They might not yet be ready. But you are. It’s nothing against them.

YOU are learning how to love and value yourself enough to hang out with people who inspire, challenge, motivate and mentor you. You will RISE to their frequency instead of being bombarded by the “negative Nellie’s” our there. Since you seek to be like your mentors you will reflect their progress back to them like a mirror reflects the light of the brilliant orange setting sun.

That’s a good thing.

You are deeply and profoundly influenced by the thoughts you think and the thoughts of the people you hang around with.

Self help author Napoleon Hill called this the “Master Mind Principle.”

Choose good thoughts to think and positive, inspirational people to hang out with…

And if YOUR the negative Nellie… Well my friend start today to be gentle with yourself. It’s a process. Sometimes it takes a while.

As the Shona people of Zimbabwe say, “Be patient with your drumming. The night is long.”

Serious Surfing

Continuing the theme of Interrupting habits and routines, unconscious “programs” and cultural conditioning this week…

You may notice (or maybe not) that this post is ready in the MORNING. I’ve been doing them in the AFTERNOON…

I’m constantly looking to find ways to “surf” the flow of my days so that I get the most done in ways that most easily flow from one thing to another…

I’m not sure why but I’ve been a little bit OBSESSED with surfing lately…

Probably because I live in Albany NY and it’s starting to get colder and watching people surf in places like Hawaii is MOTIVATING to me…

Whatever the case, I’ve been thinking and talking about surfing a lot lately. I’m on a tear. I can’t seem to get enough. So I’m “following the thread.”

This video highlights the intensity and attitudes of 4 professional surfers and the preparation, commitment and mind set that enables them to put their lives on the line in some of the biggest, most dangerous waves on the planet…

My point all along is that we ALL need to live our lives with this attitude.

Any day could be our last. Make today count. Be a contender. Stop coasting along with the same old same old, “that’s good enough” attitude. Go for the best wave you can and surf the HELL out of it.

A couple of other thoughts that popped into my mind after I watched this video:

  1. Isn’t it interesting that we humans can take something that was originally just for fun… and turn it into a highly competitive SERIOUS sport? Not saying that’s good or bad, just imagine if you could turn your life into a “sport”… whatever that might mean for you. And take your life, your work as seriously and intensely as these guys… It’s the same in music. Most of us “professional” musicians were drawn to music because it was deeply, deeply moving, emotionally connecting and just plain downright fun. And then somewhere along the line we start thinking that we “should” make a living doing it… Sometimes  that takes the fun out of it. But it doesn’t have to.
  2. Even though women are definitely a growing part of the sport of surfing, there seems to be something in surfing for young men that our culture does not provide anymore, namely, the ability to face danger and hone one’s courage and physical skills as well as engage in friendly (and often fierce) competition. In past generations this was a natural part of men growing up and contributing to the community by hunting and defending the tribe. Hunting is a dangerous and physically demanding activity that demands alertness, strength, skill, endurance, team work, and wisdom along with the satisfaction of serving the “tribe”. And surfers are definitely a “tribe”. I think there is something definitely missing from the lives of many men today which may explain why so many are drawn to online gaming where they can safely engage in the internal experiences they don’t get in our culture. (remember your unconscious mind does not know the difference between what is “real” and what is happening on your internal mental movie screen.
  3. Also notice that at least one of the surfers, works out with a personal trainer who CHALLENGES him when he wants to quit. I think that component is extremely important for all of us. I work with a couple coaches who challenge me DAILY to put my ideas into action. When I work with clients, that’s partly my role as well. I do not “fix” anybody. I teach, I train, I encourage, I challenge… Most of the time gently. LOL. But there is always an investment and commitment with no guarantee of immediate results. None of these surfers is “guaranteed” to win any completion or to even LIVE another day (which leads me to my next thought).
  4. These surfers are also well aware that people die surfing. But I bet if you asked them they would insist that they would rather die surfing than die from sitting in an office chair all day… slowly (and I’m already working on a post for tomorrow that addresses this issue…)

Und now I must catch the next wave…of my day…

Here’s what I’m working on next: I’m setting up the beta test invitation page today for my “Stop Smoking Dammit” course which I made last Spring but then set aside to work on my CRUSH anxiety NOW and CRUSH anxiety FOREVER Courses.

Although it’s specifically for quitting smoking, the “getting ready to quit” modules are perfect for pretty much any change you want to make in your life…

How To “Surf” Your Job

Here’s today’s fresh and groovy video… In it I continue to explore the idea of interrupting routines and habits with a radical idea about how to turn your “job” into “surfing”…

Some people have found a way to make a living surfing…

Some people have found a way to make surfing into a “job”…

Some people have found a way to turn their “Job” into “surfing…

Try it. You might like it…

Routines and habits can be tremendously helpful and they are literally the result of you training your unconscious mind over a period of time, so that you can stop using up your precious conscious mind attention (which has some limitations believe me) and let your MASSIVE unconscious mind just add it to its automated “programming”.

The challenge is when you’ve gone through a ton of effort to turn something (like smoking or biting your nails) into a habit, and then realizing that you want to stop it.

You’ve got to understand a little bit about how you’re wired in order to “make it so”.

so the practice of interrupting routines is a good place to start “loosening things up”.

Most of us spend MOST of our time at work or working. So it’s a good place to adjust our attitudes.

Todays Challenge is to find a way to turn exactly what you are doing right now for work into “surfing”.

How can you do the absolute best job you can with no attachment to praise or getting a raise. To just surf the wave of work with the utmost grace, elegance, élan, and joy today?

I’m talking about just one day. No big commitment. Try it and see if you like it…

Habit Change

We are continuing to shake up routines today.

So, watch the video first, then read my brilliant thoughts below it…

When people think about hypnosis they usually think about it as a way of changing habits.

And it is. Faster. Easier. Better.

But the majority of people kind of believe in it like its some kind of magic voodoo thing where the hypnotist “makes” them change. The reality is far more interesting. The person who says they want to make the change, will only make the change if they want to make the change.

Smoking is a habit. When people want to quit, they are actually not quitting cigarettes so much as they are retraining their unconscious mind to let go of the habit of smoking.

Overeating is a habit. When people want to lose weight they often attempt to change their habitual way of eating and moving (or not moving as the case may be). Weight loss is more challenging than smoking cessation because there are usually multiple changes that need to be made in multiple areas of your life.

Anxiety is a habit. It is habitual, vivid repetitions, of what you do not want, played out on your internal movie screen. Your body reacts biochemically to the habitual focus on doomsday scenarios and the body needs less and less reminding to create the habitual fight, or flight hormones a pumpin’.

So when I say it’s a good practice to consciously PRACTICE changing things up in very small ways. It’s just one of many ways I’m attempting to give your power back to you so you can stop doing the stuff that stops you and start doing the stuff that will lead you to the health, wealth and love that you say  you want.

So your assignment, should you choose to accept it, is to do something differently in the next 24 hours. And then repeat. See what else begins to change as you demonstrate to your unconscious mind that change is actually fun. At the very least it’s more interesting than doing the same old thing and expecting a different result. LOL.
