Overcoming Obstacles

FRUSTRATION

March 8, 2016 by Mark Shepard

How To Use FRUSTRATION To Move Forward

Depending on your own level of frustration, you might want to play the transformation tune first today and then read the post… or maybe the other way around… :o)

I don’t know about you but I have a fairly low threshold for tolerating frustration.

Think of frustration

as an energy block.

It’s not something someone is doing to you. You and I no longer have the luxury of playing the “victim role” in the adventure story of our lives…

But the “thing” that is causing frustration won’t just go away because you wish it to. It is something that needs to be dealt with… consciously and lovingly.

Frustration in our own lives with jobs and co-workers, loved ones and situations that seem “unchangeable” can either drive us crazy or inspire and motivate us to take action.

Frustration calls for reflection, “getting the lesson” and then intelligent sustainable action.

The first thing we have to remember (and I am writing this for ME as well as YOU :o), is that the obstacles, blocks, “dead-ends” and annoying “stuck-ness” feelings are PERFECT.

We are being CHALLENGED to up our game.

The question is How Deep are you willing to Go in working on it?

  • Gandhi’s frustration led him to invent a whole new way of creating change in South African and India Non-Violent Protest. His frustration eventually led to MASSIVE action and a change of ideas that is still rocking this world and influencing leaders such as Martin Luther King and Nelson Mendala.
  • Benjamin Franklin’s frustration with the postal system caused him to develop the first dependable postal service between the original 13 colonies, and it was his connections and travels between the colonies that helped him do his part in uniting them. His frustration with other aspects of colonial living caused him to organize the first volunteer fire department, lighted streets, lending libraries, and something we today call “the master mind” principle. Thank god for old Benjy’s frustration!

Frustration is the mother of all invention.

There have been some things that have frustrated me for 40 years. Forty damn years!

I started writing songs in 1976. They were so good that people would be stunned and astonished that this 16 year old kid was writing stuff that seemed way beyond his years. Whatever.

My songwriting came out of my own personal frustration at not being able to say out loud in words to other people what I was really feeling and thinking. I turned all the stuff inward and somehow I was able to turn all the crap I was feeling into lyrics and music that metaphorically expressed the inexpressible…

And then year after year I couldn’t for the life of me perform that damn things or “get them out in the world where they could do some good”….

FRUSTRATION!

Because I couldn’t perform them, I began to attempt to find ways to just record and preserve them. Which cost money. So I began to learn how to make money. And in that arena I crashed and burned more times than I care to admit. At one point I bought 4 houses for nothing down at the top of the 1980’s real estate bubble. That bubble BURST and I lost everything (and not for the last time!).

Eventually I surrendered to a higher power… and started working on my own “stuff” as if my life depended upon it (which is kind of did when you think about the alternative to actually doing the work).

Remember “stuff?”

We all have “stuff”. The “stuff” that gets triggered unconsciously and leaves us feeling shame, anger, fear, guilt, sadness without any logical or reasonable reason. The “Stuff” that drives us crazy and makes us MISERABLE.

“STUFF” = A technical term.

But I contend with all my heart and all my soul that our “stuff” is the greatest gift we have. Without it’s uncomfortable nudging, (or SHOVING) we would stay complacently satisfied with whatever small little box we have managed to build for ourselves.

AND IT’S TIME TO BREAK DOWN THE WALLS OF THE BOX.

It’s freedom time people.

It’s action time. More on this soon.

Now about the “Transformation Tune of the Day”,  Song #58 Visions of You (I Wreck My Soul)

I wrote it while I was at Princeton Theological Seminary in 1982… I was 22 How old were you?
Make sure you listen to the end for the “shift” moment. :o)

Instead of wishing you “peace” today, I lovingly wish you “FRUSTRATION” of the best kind.

May you be motivated to know

  1. You are not alone.
  2. Your frustration is a gift and a challenge
  3. You can do this.
  4. Together We CAN Change The World
  5. Changing the world starts INSIDE.

And I will see YOU on the INSIDE!
– Mark

p.s. along the way my frustration caused me to be motivated to learn how to change my own mind and body to support my big dream of making a positive difference in the world through my word and music. The result is a growing body of personal transformation tools and programs that people all over the world are finding helpful in their own transformational journeys.

The really important thing is just to be fully aware that you can realize the change you’re looking for…

Here’s is a FRESH new video I made for you about transformational communication. Please understand that this is actually a 10 minute conversational hypnosis session that is designed to communicate directly to your unconscious mind. It will work best for  you if you are willing to take 10 minutes for yourself right now, and practice whatever breath awareness you do… open your mind… relax and then notice how your day improves as a result. :o)

Moment of Truth

December 2, 2015 by Mark Shepard

45706221_mThe Moment of Truth.

We’ve all experienced it at some time or another…

When it’s make it or break it.

Now or never.

Do or “die”.

Play ball or go home.

Shit or get off the pot.

Put the pedal to the metal.

Burn  your boats.

Burn your Bridges.

“Shatter the patterns and leave the past behind”

It’s time  my friend…

To get SERIOUS.

About what?

Oh YOU know what… Don’t you?

That thing that you think you would like to change…

You know what you want to change. Many people want to change. But most people can never seem to make changes “stick”.

There may be many reasons why people don’t change. But there is definitely one thing that stops a lot of transformation from happening…

It’s all about the “Moment of Truth”.

You see, until you convince your unconscious mind that there is no more wiggle room, no more weaseling out of the change you want to make, you will be like MOST of the people who want to lose weight, stop smoking, get fit, get relief from anxiety and stress, make more money, succeed at dating and relationships, and generally “nail it” on the big stages or playing fields of their lives…

A wanna be.

(Been there. Done that. None of us are immune from it at any level.)

And I know you don’t want to be a wanna be.

You want to be somebody who can take charge of every area of your life and master it.

Am I right?

The moment of truth…

…When for a clear, decisive instant we stop bullshitting ourselves and admit that we alone are responsible for the challenge in front of us.

No one is going to make you make the change.

No one is going to say anything or even notice if you just kind of… stay the way you are… there is no one to be accountable to except yourself.

And it’s time. It’s time to dig deep into your own power and determination and be so bold as to fvcking go for it, isn’t it?

When people find out I’m a master practitioner and trainer of hypnosis, they almost universally ask, “Can you MAKE me stop smoking or “Can you MAKE me stop eating junk so I can lose weight?”

Nope.

I cant make you change and I can’t make the changes for you, but I sure as hell can help you to get your mind in the right place to make that powerful decision. To get to your moment of truth.

And then I can give you a massive array of tools you can use immediately to run your own mind. Faster. Easier. Better.

But there are no guarantees except YOURS. The one you set up for yourself.

And BTW “Faster” doesn’t guarantee that it’s going to be fast.

“Easier” doesn’t guarantee that it will be easy.

But it will be faster, easier, and better with the tools you’ll learn here than if you keep doing what you’ve been doing in the past.

So when you’re ready to go deeper, you’ll find some powerful tools here to help you help yourself Master Your Mind For A change…

Of course, you have to be ready. You may not be ready even if you think you are.

I set out to find my abs at least 5 years ago. To this point they have remained safely hidden behind a bit o belly fat.

I did have a moment of truth Fall of 2014 that It was a MUST to lose 20 pounds.  And I did.  And I feel great. And I’m building muscle, moving my body, healthy, happy to be wearing a size smaller pants… in other words I went as far as my “moment of truth” from last year could carry me.  And so while I’m a lot  more fit and trim than last year, I want more.

I want to see my damn abs! I DEMAND to see them.

And now it’s MY moment of truth.

To put up or shut up. To walk my talk. To publicly declare 2016 as my “year of the abs”… To do so publicly is to “force accountability”.  But it also gives me an opportunity to invite others like you to join me for whatever your personal goal or goals are for 2016. We can do whatever we truly want to do.

This COULD be your moment of truth. Are you in? Let me know ok?

What is it you want? What is it you’ve been saying you want but haven’t actually actualized in your life or personality or behavior?

It definitely helps to know what that is… LOL

But let’s say you DO know what you want, but you’re not really sure you’re ready to actually have it.  How do you get your self to stop resisting and spewing out excuses and self pity and COMMIT to get there sooner instead of wasting all that time getting ready to get ready to change?…

It comes down to a big enough “why” that you can sustainably hold in your mind that communicates, no, relentlessly BROADCASTS to your Unconscious Mind that there is no way out except through. There is no way home except forwards. It’s creating enough leverage in your own mind so that going back is not an option. The only way out is moving forwards through all of the objections, and old standby excuses. And then there are some additional steps and mindsets that help you to KEEP the momentum going once you decide to “go all in” for your goal. And once you’ve committed to your action and started taking action, how to make it fun. How to make sure you actually notice progress that will keep you moving forwards, even one single step at a time.

Why do you want to change the thing you want to change?

And is that enough to motivate you?

or is there something else that when added to the mix will cause you to crank it up and COMMIT?

Talk to me. I’m listening. And I’ve made MY decision. Let me know if you want to join the fun.

The Spinach King of South Africa

November 27, 2015 by Mark Shepard

spinach-king-ss2The Antidote to “Black Friday” Madness,

Hey there Fabulous, Radiant, Brilliant, Visionary, Caring One,

I don’t know if you get as many emails as I do. I’m on a lot of lists.

And today, this sweet, quiet Friday after American Thanksgiving, my “in-box” is full of strident attention seeking subject lines all about this damn “Black Friday” thing.

WTF? It’s actually mass hypnosis. And not pretty. Kind of “Icky” actually.

The frenzy of sales for stuff that we probably don’t even need. The people waking up early and waiting in line to get all their “bargains”. People wrestling in the aisle for some stupid toy that the manufacturers purposely didn’t make enough of and advertised the hell out of so that they would create false scarcity or “demand”. Yuck. Blecch!

Time to interrupt the pattern, the program the ROUTINE!

I’d like to share this short video with you as a little tiny antidote to the insanity.

I hereby nominate Lufefe Nomjana, the Spinach King of South Africa for lifetime membership in the Transformation Nation because he is actually transforming the world. Let’s all do our little part to do the same in some small way in our own small backyards or wherever…

I am so filled with love and compassion for you today my friend. This man so clearly changed his thinking, focuses his mind on his Massive Throbbing Vision for his Life, his Path With Heart, that I want you to see it, feel it, hear it’s message for you in your life.

There is great power in life affirming ideas. There is great transformational power in taking action, step by step towards your worthy goal or purpose.

When everybody else is “zigging”, then perhaps it’s time for us to “Zag.”

Take time to love yourself today enough to begin to write and tell a new story for you.

All the best!

Please be forewarned I swore a little bit because I got really fired up and passionate, so if that would offend you please don’t watch it… unless you LIKE to feel offended, in which case, by all means… watch it…

So are you ready to own it? What would that feel like?

Trouble Focusing?

October 15, 2015 by Mark Shepard

40808287_mHaving Trouble Focusing? Feeling Scattered? Have Many Interests and Talents?

Feel like a kid in the candy store of life? So many things you COULD do? So many possibilities? So many choices?

Do you have many talents and interests? So many that it can sometimes be a bit overwhelming and frustrating?

You might want to try “Chunking Up!” and Surfing it…

I got a great email today from Transformation Nation member Ari. This guy is doing some really good, profound, deep work and I LOVE hearing from him as well as all of you budding Jedi Mind Masters out there.

He was responding to yesterday’s Post, Dealing With Change. His question and reflection on change and the challenge of being a “creative” with multiple interests and passions is sheer “GOLD”. I have a feeling a lot of you can relate to it.

Being a being with multiple interests myself, this used to drive me crazy! I could focus intensely for a while on something but invariably the level of interest and attention would eventually kind of run out…

And something new would grab my attention. Then I’d go deep with that.

  • My first big thing was nature,
  • Which led me to a fascination (as a 4th grader) with everything Native American.
  • Then it was the Revolutionary War,
  • Then it was, learning to play the guitar well enough to write the songs I wanted to write,
  • And of course writing songs
  • Then it was my fascination with world religions
  • Then it was healing my body and my heart/soul,
  • Then it was storytelling and kid performing,
  • Then it was African drumming
  • Then learning the Irish Tin Whistle
  • Then it was hypnosis and NLP,
  • Then it was learning how to paint in a way that made me happy,
  • Then it was developing my anxiety relief programs, and pretty much helping people with all kinds of challenges with NLP and hypnosis, Weight Loss, Habit Control, Shyness,

Of course a lot of this has been going on at the same time in various ways. And when I set one thing down for a while and turned my attention and focus elsewhere, I noticed I would often return refreshed and even more creative. And all these areas of interest were often combining and re-combining in ways that when I kind of relaxed into it and “surfed” it, constantly surprise and delight me.

I also noticed that when I tried to “force” a focus because it would “make more money”. It pretty much always bit me in the butt.

So I’m a big advocate of following the natural “flow” of your interests and passions. And checking in frequently for “congruence”.

Chances are if you are here at HonestHypnosis.com you are probably a bit like my friend Ari and myself… I’d like to invite you to join the conversation…

Here’s his letter:

Mark,

I wanted to explore a little more with you regarding the way I handle change. You and I had talked once about my frustration with having so many different interests (creative, exercise, etc.) that I did not feel that I could be good at any one of them.

In other words, I felt unfocused.

You said that the process of exploring all of them was, in and of itself, a valid reason to be alive, a valid purpose for a life.

I think at the core of my resistance to what you said (there is a part of me that still wants a specialized focus) is trouble coping with change on my part.

If I interpret all of my various interests (guitar, singing, running, photography, yoga, church, farming, etc.) in a positive light, I simply give myself options of what I can do when I happen to have some free time on my hands.

But as it is, I interpret it negatively, as though I have a poor ability to focus, a low work ethic, etc., and that is why I can’t go very far in any one thing. I feel out of control somehow.

Ari

Here is my reply (which is to Ari and all of you as well as my own unconcious mind):

Hey Ari, (Oh man of many talents and interests…)

My profoundest advice is this: Chunk Up and Learn to SURF it.

In fact watch some surfers on youtube or wherever.

Always adjusting and often falling… each wave different from the last…

Each interest is a wave. Ride the one you’re on until it dissipates or you feel drawn to the next one…

Ultimately the waves flow out in circles and then bounce or reverberate back… so you can ride them again and again… in different directions…

It’s all one energy.

Creative.

Divine.

The ancient Toltecs believed that when we die we return our bubble of awareness to the “Source of all things”, “God”, “All that Is”, whatever you want to call it, ENHANCED by our experiences and the memories of a lifetime.

This is our purpose for having the life force given to us… to expand God… To be God’s eyes, ears, sense receptors “on the ground” “in the field” so to speak… and to learn, grow, seek to understand, expand, deepen, discover…

So stop judging yourself for multiple interests. Your creativitiy and interest in many things is what The Universe/God wants you to be doing… Start enjoying the adventure knowing you will someday present it as a gift to your Creator…

If finding a focus is a MUST, then try this:
Chunk up enough so that all of the things you love to do
are sweetly nestled under a single cohesive umbrella…

Chunking up is going from specific to general. For example:
Toyota Corolla ==> Passenger Car ==>Motor Vehicle ==>TRANSPORTATION.

For me, when I chunked up on what my music and my NLP / Hypnosis / Painting / Storytelling / Entrepreneurism all had in common…. I got  creativity, making a positive difference in the world and helping other people to learn, heal, expand, develop, grow…. and when I chunked up on THAT, I got “Transformation”

(of course hypnosis is quite literally “Trance Formation”. And Music causes us to transform our state as well and can cause a deep trance…)

So Today’s Mind Mastery Transformation Tip for ALL of you FABULOUS, creative, talented, passionate, curious, action taking “TRANSFORMING bubbles of awareness” out there who have many interests is “Chunk up!” and start surfing all of  your many interests without having to “force” any one of them be the “One thing”. Go into what they all have in common. What is it about these interests that nourish an literally Interests you? Are they areas where you can command some mastery? Are they areas of interest because you happen to be good at them? Or are you good at them because you are interested in them?

Your “One Thing” will be something that INCLUDES all the best of what you are and do and are interested and passionate about.

So tawk to me Ari and all you other folks out there. I find your thoughts Fascinating… I love being a part of your TRANSFORMATION!

Be gentle with yourselves and have fun while you play with this idea today…

Chunk UP and Surf the Waves of Interest…

Mark
