Well… You never know when your time might run out…

But if I did gently suggest to you that you might want to seriously consider if you are living the life you actually want to be living because…  You might want to pay attention because…

It actually could be your last day. Mine too.

Today.

Really. This could be it.

It might just end today.

Boom.

Done.

Game over.

It probably won’t. But it could. And the question is, are you ready for that? Have you really lived? Have you really loved? have you really explored this amazing and fabulous world of ours?

Just saying’… you um… might want to…  soon. Like, you know, ah…

Today.

Coming Home To Yourself

No matter what your circumstances of birth, your childhood, your teen years, your current situation as an adult, you are in a PROCESS. You are on a JOURNEY.

Life is filled with challenges and opportunities. Some say they are actually one and the same thing.

It is only our INTERPRETATION of events that make them “problems” or “solutions”.

To illustrate this today I want to share a song that has evolved over the years.

The original version this song, #175, was about the work I was doing in the late 80’s and 90’s healing my life. I was struggling on many fronts.

Physically, I was exhausted and seemed to be unable to digest my food properly.

Emotionally I was full of anger, sadness, fear, shame…you name it I was getting clobbered by it.

I could not for the life of me seem to be able to do anything significant with my music. Couldn’t perform it or sell it or market it or anything other than write song, after song, after song, after song…(that seemed destined to never be heard).

On the positive side of things, it was around this time that I began to add drumming and storytelling to the mix of music that was pouring through me.

Somewhat out of desperation, I began to study energy healing with a woman named Mearah Marqua who was one of physicist and energy healer Barbara Brennon’s first students. I studied with her and a group of other people seeking to heal their lives one weekend a month for about 5 years. Slowly things began to change.

But just so you know, first things fell apart even more!

First I had to lose the 4 houses I’d bought for “nothing down” and sell the Title Insurance business that was killing me…

Bankruptcy and foreclosure. “Failure” some might call it.

Looking back? “MIRACLES”, “GIFTS”, “RELEASE”!

Eventually, step by step (always taking way longer than I wanted :o) the healing began and the thriving and joy followed.

Then as I continued on my own healing journey, it became apparent as I dove into Ericksonian Hypnosis and Neuro Linguistics (NLP) in the early 2000’s, that a slight update was required linguistically to pre-suppose that the healing had already taken place…

You Mind Mastery TIP, is to begin to play with referring to your “problems” in the PAST TENSE.

So today’s Mind Mastery assignment, (should you choose to accept it) is to acknowledge today how far you’ve actually come on your own healing journey. Give yourself a little credit for all the work you’ve done on healing yourself, your work, your relationships, your body, your life.

And then share this song and post with anyone you know who may need some healing support.

None of us are alone in this process of healing even though sometimes it feels that way.

Today, imagine me, surrounding YOU with light, love, support, encouragement and the idea that you are making progress!

Because you are!

Focusing On What’s Possible

Hey! It’s Transformation Tuesday!

(again :o)

I just wanted to share a quick story of a family that has TRANSFORMED their small urban home and lawn into an URBAN FARM! Not only does their postage stamp sized yard feed THEM, they also make about $20,000 a year selling their surplus to local restaurants.

There is a mass “hypnosis” that says “you can’t do that”.

Well, THESE folks woke up out of the “consumer trance” and have embraced a different way of thinking. They call it “freedom”.

I call it “Focusing On What’s POSSIBLE”.  All innovation, all solutions to life’s challenges starts with a shift in our attitudes and beliefs about what is possible for us. And ultimately it’s HONEST HYPNOSIS.

The Power of A Mentor

Fire in the Eyes…

Have you ever met someone who just had intense eyes?

Someone who looked beyond the surfaces of things and saw something in you that challenged your small idea of yourself?

A lot of stories people tell of turning points in their lives, of moments that made a significant difference in their lives, involved someone older, wiser, cooler, higher “status” or whatever, who recognized something in them and encouraged that spark of greatness that we all have the potential for, to take root, to begin to grow, to blossom, to flourish …

Often it was a teacher, or a beloved Grandparent, a coach, a mentor…

I remember reading a story of a teacher in the beleaguered Chicago school system who had an almost IMPOSSIBLE student named Shaneequwa who had grown up tough in the projects… Shaneequwa basically flunked the class… caused endless disruption and trouble… but  at the end of the school year the teacher wrote a note to this kid who she recognized as SMART even though she was DIFFICULT.

The note from the teacher said,

“I know this was a tough year for you. I just want you to know that I believe in you. I know you can succeed at whatever you put your mind to. Have a great summer.”

And then in the Fall, to the teacher’s DISMAY, Shaneequwa RE-TOOK her class.

But something was different.

  • She paid attention.
  • She did her homework.
  • And she excelled.

It was that note. That simple little note that triggered a shift. No one in her life had ever told her she could ever be something. And it Made a difference.

My eyes get all watery just sharing that story.

Because that student went on to graduate from high school and college.

All because someone actually believed in her and communicated that to her.

We ALL have the potential to become more than we think we are… But sometimes we need someone else to RECOGNIZE IT IN US.

I had a cousin. He was 8 years older than me and different. I had a lot of other cousins, but Eliot always looked at me with deep, deep eyes….

Eliot was handicapped by congenital Dwarfism and had multiple physical challenges with his ears and eyes. Maybe it was because at age 16 he was the same height as I was at age 8, but he was my hero. We saw eye to eye in a lot of ways…

What I think was most important was the fact that he always took the time to listen to me, to teach me stuff, and to show me the books he was reading. He never talked down to me. He never made me feel like I was some bratty little kid. He talked to me as if I were an adult.

And needless to say I adored him.

Because he loved to read and was deeply knowledgable about Native American crafts and culture, I got hooked on knowledge. I got positively addicted to learning and he started me on a path of VORACIOUS reading and curiosity about excellence that continues to fuel my own daily reading and research into the potential we have as human beings to break through old limitations…

The bottom line: He BELIEVED in me. And he COMMUNICATED THAT TO ME. And it made a difference.

So today. I just feel so deeply moved to let YOU know from my HEART,

“I know this may have been a tough year for you so far, but I just want you to know that I believe in YOU. I know you can succeed at whatever you truly put your mind to. Have a great Holiday Weekend!”

Transformation Tuesday update

and…
What Does It Have To Do With YOU?

There’s a bit of a story here so I humbly ask you for your kind attention:

For the past 40 years I have been on a quest to somehow, someway, find a way to use my music to make a positive difference in the world.

EVERYTHING I’ve had to work on in this process has improved, not just my music, but my health, my relationships, my business skills, my happiness, my ability to thrive even in the face of massive change and economic challenges…. It helped me survive being homeless and destitute and change my inner experience of EVERYTHING so that EVERYTHING served me…

The “Purpose Problem” of being frustrated and tangled up in anxiety, self sabotage, negative mind reads, limiting beliefs, lack of consistency and lack of persistence around my music…

FORCED me to work on myself as if my life and livelihood depended upon it.

Which they actually did.

Along the way, I added storytelling and drumming to my performing and audiences at schools, libraries and other venues responded enthusiastically… DrumSongStory.com

but something was missing…

I then dove deep into researching and putting into practice the most leading edge personal mastery, interpersonal communication skills and mind mastery tools on the planet…

Ericksonian Hypnosis, Neuro Linguistic Programming, Time Line Therapy, EFT, and Energy Work…

And I put them into practice IMMEDIATELY in my own life and watched miracles happen. I obsessively and compulsively PRACTICED the tools and techniques and started writing songs about them as well (which I am sharing here on this site as “Transformation Tunes”.

And in the process (because it is definitely a PROCESS), I watched “disasters” in my life turn into “The best things that could ever happen”.

I started working with clients and watched more miracles happen.

I watched people clear phobias in moments that had plagued them for their entire lives. I watched people lose weight, stop smoking, increase their athletic performance, double their incomes, increase their confidence in challenging situations that used to freak them out… It was very satisfying.

But something was missing.

5 years ago I ended up doing a block of Bullying Prevention School Assembly programs in Arkansas.

And while I was there they had a snowstorm. That meant I needed to reschedule my Thursday and Friday performances for Monday and Tuesday… which meant I had all day Thursday, all day Friday, all day Saturday and ALL… DAY…. SUNDAY. to cool my heels in my cheap hotel room… or… explore.

So I explored. I went to an open mic night and because wasn’t shy anymore (thanks to my self hypnosis and NLP tools), I made some new friends. They invited me to do some cool drumming stuff and some cool crystal bowl healing stuff and they also suggested I check out the local Unity Church because they had a spiritual songwriting group over there.

Well, at the time. I DID NOT DO “CHURCH”. I didn’t care how liberal, or how progressive or how nice. I DID NOT DO CHURCH. But I was BORED OUT OF MY MIND, so I went.

And it was really, really cool. The music was fresh. The ideas were pretty much EXACTLY what I was teaching to my hypnosis clients about the power of their thoughts to create their reality and their experience of “what is”.

In fact, I liked it so much that I made a solemn promise to myself to “find one of these Unity things” when I got back home to Albany NY.

And so I did. I walked in the following Sunday to Unity Church In Albany NY and I knew I was home.

Home…

While I sat there it became clear that here was a place where I could experience community and the company of like minded people.

The people at Unity were mostly “refugees” from other religions, who were seeking something they could use and apply to their lives. A spiritual path that made sense and was actually practical and “Practice-able”.

It was a group of people like me who mostly consider themselves to be “Spiritual But Not Religious”.

Cool!
No guilt trips. No proselytizing. No having to believe in stuff literally that was clearly “metaphorical”…

It was a place where I loved to be.

I soon invited myself to join the music team (they couldn’t get rid of me!) and I started writing song after song inspired by the talks the minister Jim Fuller gave, inspired by the ideas that were moving through me.
And it felt like Home.

Here’s one of the songs written there…

In the 2nd two years there, I released 2 CD’s of my “Spiritual but not Religious” songs that were mostly songs written for my beloved Unity community. “The Fire Before The Flame” and “Home Across The Sea”.

And pretty much every single Sunday, you could find me at Unity Church playing the piano (which I hadn’t done in 20 years) and singing one of my original songs within the “New Thought” song mix that music director Roger Mock brilliantly matched to whatever the minister’s talk was about.

Roger urged me to submit my songs to the Posi Awards and as a result my song, “Together We Can Change The World” was nominated and then received a Posi Award which as been called, “the Grammy of the Positive Music Movement.”

and I was content…

Until recently. :o)

Something has shifted so deeply in me that is just DEMANDING I PAY ATTENTION.

  • I have a wealth of transformational songs to share with the world… (515 and counting) and it’s way more than can be used in the Sunday morning or evening settings at Unity…
  • AND I also have something to say. I have stories that are clamoring inside me that could help people as well…
  • AND I have a wealth of experience helping people to transform their lives.
  • AND singing one or two of my songs each Sunday barely scratches the surface of what I want to contribute.
  • I want to be of service to my fellow human beings at the same time that I intelligently and congruently integrate and use all of my god given abilities and interests to help YOU… live a richer, more joyful, more empowered life.
    You are my beloved Transformation Nation and while many of you who receive these emails each day are from my cherished local community at Unity, many of you are from all over the world…

So what keeps nudging me and pestering me is…

The idea of a day during the week when I could use my talents and abilities in a way that integrates the songs, the stories, the spirituality and the practical tools of transformation that have helped me and my clients so much over the past 15 years…

It will have a local component where folks in my hometown of Albany NY can come and join their hearts, minds and voices with mine on a regular basis on Tuesday nights… Transformation Tuesdays!…

That way I can still contribute on Sundays with the Unity Music Team AND give more that I can currently give in that setting.

AND it will also be streamed live so that those of you who are scattered all over the country (and the world) will be able to participate and share in it as well. After all, there is no time or space. Our energy can be combined and enhanced no matter where we are physically.

So Transformation Tuesday is coming…

From the depths of my heart I want to invite you to join me…

Here are some of the details as they are forming…

Each Transformation Tuesday event will start with

  • Meditation Movements – We’ll move our bodies in ways that are specifically designed to increase endorphins, and healthy energy flow throughout the body. We’ll ground ourselves and get the breathing and gentle “tai chi like” movements charging up our fields. This will empower us to transform whatever energy, state, or mood we are in or working through into personal empowerment.
    Next, we will begin to use
  • Intentional Chants, Transformation Tunes and Toning to take that energy process to a deeper, higher, wider, level.
    Then once we “tune in” we will bring our hearts and minds together for a
  • Specific Transformational Intention that will assist each of us to apply one or two simple, powerful Mind/Heart/Body Personal Mastery Tools to our own lives, situations, relationships, etc.
    Once we focus on what we want and discover a new way of looking at and experiencing the things we desire to transform, we’ll go into a
  • Guided Meditation, Visualization, Hypnosis, (whatever you want to label it) to let go of what we need to let go of and internalize and focus our minds, hearts, bodies and spirits on what we DO want…
  • We’ll then “Lock In The Change” with a few more appropriate Transformation Tunes and
  • “Release the Form” as we bring the evening to a close and set the intention for a fabulous next 7 days…

There will also be time at the end to simply hang out and share our individual experiences with each other.
