He basically said, “Mark I’ve made significant progress CRUSHING my anxiety. But Now I seem to be still tangled up in my past “stuff” what should I do about that?”

Hypnosis for Fear of Flying

33010598_sA question came in this morning from a person who struggles with severe fear of flying…

(aka Flying Phobia, Flying anxiety, Aviophobia or Aviatophobia).

His question was:

“Can you tell me a little bit more about your “process”. I am anxious to get rid of this problem as it has been defining my life and travels for family events, vacations, etc. for years. However, I have been assured in the past that other therapy will work and it obviously hasn’t.”

I get questions like this a lot.

People have spent a ton of money in the past on “anxiously trying to get rid of whatever their anxiety or phobia is”… [notice he is literally anxious to get rid of the problem as if it is something outside of himself that just “happened”] So they go to traditional talk therapy and spend weeks, months, even years talking about the problem or they give up on themselves and take the medication route and get a bunch of side effects that mess them up even more.

Why hypnosis and NLP work better for fear of flying and other phobias

So it makes sense that they are a bit leery, hesitant and suspicious of me and my “process.” I get that.

Cool.

Here’s my answer:

Rather than a long winded explanation of what I do step by step, let me instead tell you a quick story about my “process” and you can decide for yourself if you are ready to work with me or not.

7 or 8 years ago, I dated a woman who was a PhD “doctoral fellow” at a major Ivy League University. Her speciality was Cognitive Behavioral Therapy or CBT for short.

She trained practitioners in CBT all over the world. She had studied the brain. She had studied all kinds of official academic stuff that you have to study in order to become licensed and accredited by such prestigious institutions of higher learning she had passed all the tests and certifications and supervision stuff. In other words she had MAJOR credentials.

We had dated for a month or two and she mentioned that she was feeling some anxiety because she had to give a talk before the entire faculty of this Major Ivy League Medical school on CBT.

“Some anxiety?”

The truth was she was totally freaking out with anxiety. Just like you before a plane flight. Sweaty palms, racing heart, upset stomach, diarrhea. The works.

In about 5 minutes, I taught her a single one of my many anxiety relief tools and even though she had never heard of NLP (Neuro Linguistic Processing or Programming), or Time Line Therapy ™ which are a couple of my main areas of expertise, she learned the technique and applied it.

Her anxiety instantly disappeared.

She used the technique a few more times that night and the next morning, as well as before her talk.

Relaxed and confident she literally hit a home run and her talk was well received. Think about it! The faculty of a major medical school has to be one of the toughest audiences to speak to anywhere. Needless to say she was ecstatic! I naively thought this would bring us closer together and that she would want to learn more about the tools I’d developed to CRUSH anxiety.

Boy was I wrong! She NEVER asked me about any of my other tools or how I am able to consistently help people literally drop their severe phobias in a rapidly short time.

The subject never, ever, came up again in conversation. And I mean NEVER. She showed absolutely NO INTEREST!

How is it possible that something so effective WORKS so well and is TOTALLY ignored by the academic world?

Personally, I believe it is because more than anything, what I do in my “process” is teach YOU how to run your own mind so that YOU are no longer at the mercy of the old unconscious “programs” or patterns of thought and behavior that you have been running in the background of your awareness all your life.

Think about it, if all of these therapists and drug companies actually solved the problem, they would be out of business wouldn’t they?

  • No weekly sessions.
  • No re-fills on those prescriptions.
  • A financial dead end.

The main difference with my “therapy” working vs other practitioners is that it is NOT THERAPY! It is COACHING! I never claim to “fix” your problem. I teach YOU how to fix your own problem.

I figured out how to “fix” my anxiety on my own with a massive investment of effort, time and money NOT so I could learn to charge money helping other people to do the same but so that I could get on with my fvcking life and get my music out into the world. I’m not interested in spending weeks and weeks and months and years listening to people talk about their problems. God bless the patient therapists who love their work.

I am all about teaching YOU how to use tools that YOU can choose to USE to change how you run your mind faster, easier, better. 

That’s it. The tools work. IF you USE them.

Because ultimately you have trained yourself to create the anxiety or phobia with your own neurological patterns, habits, self talk and focus. Once you understand how you have been creating the problem for so long you will be able to “make the process of getting rid of the problem “work” yourself.

Am I successful with 100% of my clients? No. No one is. Because sometimes despite the client’s adamant protests they are really not ready to let go of the hidden benefit of having the problem.

The bottom line is I was an anxious wreck. It destroyed my relationships, my health, my career… I was probably worse than you. And I CRUSHED it in my own life.

How? I’d be happy to teach you how. I’d be happy to coach you. Whether you apply what I teach is up to you.

I use these tools every day. And when I USE them they work phenomenally. When I forget to use them I feel shitty and that causes me to REMEMBER to use them and pow! I’m back to calm.

The question is not whether my stuff works or not. The question is whether you are willing to learn how to take charge of your own mind for a change…

Without Anxiety

blindfold…The Human Race Would Have Disappeared Long Ago!

As much pain and suffering that we highly sensitive people go through because of our worry and anxiety these are traits that have saved humanity’s collective butt since time immemorial.

What do I mean?

Well, first of all you have to understand that anxiety is a thought process. It is NOT a mental disease. When you are anxious, you are thinking about what?

What’s great? What’s wonderful? How everything is going to turn out better than you can possibly imagine?

NOPE!

You are imagining the worst case scenario. Anxiety is thinking about what you DON’T want to have happen.
Am I right? Think about it!

So let’s float back in time for a moment to One Gazillion B.C. You are hanging out with your hunter gatherer tribal buddies and it’s summer time…

As the old blues song goes…

“Summer time and the livin’ is easy…”

It’s warm, there’s plenty to eat and it’s party time.

All of a sudden you have a thought about the future…You suddenly think of the coming… WINTER! You imagine digging through snow drifts for whatever you can find….

You imagine starving…

You imagine your children…hungry…cold…sick…

Hmmmm That just feels really, really bad, right?

So you come up with a brilliant idea. In order to avoid starvation in the winter you come up with the concept of drying food, and storing it in underground containers.

Then thinking about the cold, you come up with the idea that you can make warm clothing…

Thus the first root cellar is born and the fur coat is invented.

Not only is necessity the mother of invention, your ability to think ahead and visualize “bad things” happening enables you to plan ahead and take decisive action to create a different outcome…

Planning for the winter results in your family and tribe surviving! Your children and their children pass along this genetic code. The “lug-heads” who don’t have this ability don’t. They perish. Whoa! Pretty amazing huh?

Survival is a great thing isn’t it?

So those who were able to foresee the future and imagine the worst were able to better plan and as a result create a better future.

Now, fast forward to today. I would be willing to bet that if you are anything like me you’ve been using this
wonderful imagination of yours to imagine the worst…

Before every performance of mine as a singer/songwriter I would worry about getting a cold or worry about forgetting my lyrics or a guitar string breaking, or the audience not liking my music…

I could resolve the guitar sting thing by putting on new ones.

I could resolve the fear of going “blank” by having my lyric notebooks on a music stand.

The head cold…and whether people dug my sound or not…Those areas I had to use my Clear The Fear Fast, Modern Jedi Mind Mastery techniques on.

The point of this story is to:

  1. Stop beating yourself up for “having anxiety.” It’s not a defect. It’s not a “sickness.” It’s not a “mental disease.” It’s a survival skill. It’s one of the best things that ever happened to the human race.

  2. Start taking charge of what you think about. In my Seminars and in my “Clear The Fear Home Study System,” I go into this in a lot more detail but for today suffice it to say that the major Anxiety busting technique we use is from Time Line Therapy(tm) and it is simply a reversal of what you’ve been doing all along: Instead of thinking about what you DON’T want to happen, think about what you DO want to happen.

So, imagine floating out to the future to the event about which you thought you were anxious… stay floating up above the event, looking down on the event as an observer…

Now go 15 minutes farther out into the future and turn and look back seeing that event “working out better than you can possibly imagine.”

Now where’s the anxiety? It’s gone isn’t it?.

The reason this technique works is that your unconscious mind does not know the difference between what is real and what is imagined.

So if you imagine horrible stuff you body will literally react as if it’s really happening. Imagine really good stuff and your body will relax as if that good stuff is actually happening.

So this week practice this. This is not a one time “fix it.” This is a habit that you have to practice. There are days when I am literally walking around chanting:

“Why does it work out better than I can possibly imagine?”
“Why does it work out better than I can possibly imagine?”

And remember to THINK about what you WANT to have happen. And BTW how about a little appreciation for your “anxious” ancesters. Preparation is a great thing huh?
