Stop Anxiety: Meet Your Unconscious Mind Part 5

In order to stop anxiety it’s helpful to understand some key functions and processes of your Unconscious Mind and how it’s different than your conscious mind.

Milton Erickson, the “father of modern hypnosis” was fond of saying, “My patients are my patients because they are out of rapport with their unconscious minds.”

So in this article we are acknowledging a key fact…

Your unconscious mind can not process a negative.

Your conscious mind can handle “can’t” and “not” and “don’t”  but your unconscious mind can’t.

For example: Don’t think of a blue tree!

What popped into your mind? a blue tree right? Come on now, be honest.

Once you know this about communicating with your Unconscious Mind, you can stop saying things that create a negative, panic triggering internal representation. Instead you can choose to either give yourself positive self suggestions or you can cleverly disguise what you’re saying in order to create the effect you want on yourself.

For example instead of saying “I feel Bad” or “I’m feeling panicky and anxious” practice saying, “I don’t feel good right now” or “I’m not feeling calm and relaxed at the moment”. Through the power of your language you can begin to direct your unconscious mind in a subtle yet powerful way.

Don’t think about what it might be like to feel calm, relaxed confident and peaceful right now!
