Visual Hypnosis?
Last week I took some time to chill out a bit and get back in touch with my visual side…
I had started painting years ago as a way of “self medicating” and healing the pain I used to feel around performing my music…
What was cool about painting was that I didn’t have to “perform” it. Yet it was in a way a “recording” of movements and colors that I found grounding, meditative, transformational, healing or simply pleasurable to look at.
I don’t claim to be a great artist.
More accurately I paint the exact same way I painted when I was in kindergarten.
But what was really healing about painting for me was the ability to paint something that pleased ME.
If someone else didn’t like it, I had no attachment to that. I could honestly say without any kind of bitterness, defensiveness or emotional charge, “Hey, If you don’t like it, don’t look at it.”
Boom! It felt really, really refreshing… and it helped me to take my music a lot less seriously and develop an attitude of “non-attachment” in that realm as well.
And recently as this 90 day transformation challenge gob smacked me with the somewhat obvious idea that my music is “hypnosis,” it occurred to me that maybe my paintings were hypnotic too… “Visual Hypnosis.”
People that have bought them report back that they continuously enjoy gazing at them as part of their meditation practice…
