Today’s article was inspired by one of my daily inspirational conversations with my dear friend Michael Guerin. He pointed out that Honest Hypnosis is not just about me clearing through the BS of the “Hollywood Hypnosis Myth” but of the person seeking transformational help being honest with themselves as well…
Smoking? Do you honestly want to quit or is someone else telling you that you SHOULD?
Weight Loss? Do you honestly want to lose weight or is the truth that you just want to keep eating what you’ve been eating and drinking while sitting on the couch watching TV WISHING the weight would go away?
Anxiety? Do you honestly want to ditch the agoraphobia or social anxiety, or are you just wishing it would go away without you having to do anything or think anything differently?
Performance anxiety? Fear of success? Do you really want to be a top level athlete, artist, musician, speaker, entrepreneur? Or is the truth that it’s a lot safer to just avoid confronting your fears and doubts about your own brilliance and potential for greatness…
Honest hypnosis is not just about me being honest about the fact that YOU are the MOST POWERFUL HYPNOTIST in the world…
It’s not just me being honest about the fact that whenever someone changes something with the help of a hypnotist, the ACTUAL hypnosis happens INSIDE you.
It’s not just me being honest about the fact that WHENEVER anyone, anywhere, any time makes any kind of significant personal transformation, IT IS HYPNOSIS. IT ALWAYS HAS BEEN HYPNOSIS. AND IT ALWAYS WILL BE HYPNOSIS…
Hypnosis is the PROCESS of your CONSCIOUS MIND and your UNCONSCIOUS MIND getting together and communicating effectively with each other, playing on the same team, working toward the same end goal…
The biggest secret of all is that unless YOU are honest with YOURSELF… and actually consistently and persistently DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT…
Starting with THINKING DIFFERENTLY, the change you “say” you want will elude you.
That’s why having a purpose problem is so great. Because if you want something badly enough EVENTUALLY you will sit down and have an honest talk with yourself…
I spent most of my life chasing the fantasy of being a hugely successful rock star singer/songwriter… and it was only recently that I sat down and had an HONEST talk with myself.
It started when I had this big fantasy about interviewing one of my musical heroes, Bruce Cockburn when he came to Albany recently… I glanced at his tour schedule to see if there might be a time when I could propose that we chat by phone or whatever, and my stomach churned… The schedule looked really BRUTAL to me. AS IN NO FVCKING WAY DO I WANT TO BE ON THE ROAD ALL THE TIME… YUCK!
And then it hit me. I have ALWAYS written songs. But the performing part I can take or leave. I enjoy performing and I’m told I’m a powerful and engaging performer, but at what point does it become a “JOB”?
And the “being on the road all the time” travel part? Not something I want to do a lot of. I like my freedom to flow through my day without racing to catch buses or trains or planes or sitting on my ass in a car for long periods of time…
So the honest answer was, NO. I don’t actually want to be a full time, traveling musician… because it would get in the way of me being a songwriter… oh. Hadn’t thought about it like that before… Hmmmm.
But I do want to touch and transform the lives of other people in a positive, healing, transformational way with my words, my music, my voice, my writing, my songs, my heart, my love of transformation and personal growth, peak performance and freedom to evolve and grow while at the same time earning a living by providing 10x the value people pay for in my self help courses….
And oh, I can use my music in my courses and on this daily mind mastery blog… How cool is that?!
The reality I create can actually be better than the fantasy!
I love jamming in my living room with my friend Mike Covey. I LOVE making music each week at my Unity Church with Roger Mock, Pete Furlong and Sarah Puig.
I also love sleeping in my own bed. Gardening in my yard. Taking walks at the end of the day. Using my car less and less frequently.
Oh! You mean, I’m ALLOWED to be HAPPY?
Even if the thing I THOUGHT I wanted so much that DROVE me to do all this personal work on myself turns out to not be what I wanted after all?
To put it in a more material example. You hear the same story from guys who were just obsessed with making a million dollars…
They strive and struggle and pull the absolute best out of themselves only to discover one day that a million bucks isn’t really what they wanted after all, it was the FREEDOM to do what they wanted, be who they wanted, go where they wanted and have what they wanted…
It’s nice to be able to tool around in a Ferrari but the honesty piece comes in when they look over and see someone driving a beat up economy hatchback next to them on the highway and realize that a super car and a compact car driving 55 miles per hour are both doing the job. They are both traveling the same speed on the same highway. Sure, one is fancier and flashier and prettier. But they are both moving someone from point “A” to point “B”.
What’s the big deal? Whether in a Ferrari or a Toyota the true miracle is that you ain’t walking! A little over 100 years ago and you would be walking or riding a horse… on a muddy trail. NOT on a super highway. Journeys that take us only minutes would take all day. Journeys that take all day now would take WEEKS.
FREEDOM is the big deal. No matter what that looks like for you.
So HONESTY does not have to be bad or hard or harsh. It doesn’t mean you stand in front of your mirror hating on yourself.
It means you stop lying to yourself so you can focus on creating what you actually, truly, desire for yourself.
Call it: CLARITY or “ECOLOGICAL CONGRUENCE”.
And this is where any decision or direction in your life has to pass the win/win/win/win test…
Check this little questionnaire out for yourself and apply it to your big dream or desired change:
(be HONEST now ok! :o)
- Is it good for me?
- Is it good for my conscious mind?
- Is it good for my unconscious mind?
- Is it good for others? My intended audience or clients or customers?
- Is it good for my community?
- Is it good for the planet?
- When the answers to all those questions line up as YES! Then it is a “go”.
If there is a “no” anywhere along there, it is not time to get all mean and “judgemental” on yourself. It’s simply a signal that some more deep work needs to be done. That’s all.
And the”deep” work is what we are here to do.
