In today’s in-depth “Rant”, Post, Declaration, monologue, training, coaching session, (whatever you want to call it), I go deep into the idea of not just holding your MASSIVE throbbing vision constantly on your mental movie screen, but actually beginning and continuing to take intelligent action towards it’s attainment.
Key To Cowabungah: Take Intelligent Sustained Action
It’s not until you actually leave home and begin a journey that you open yourself to the opportunities that will come your way along that “path with heart.” At points on every journey you may wonder what the hell you were thinking but hopefully you will by then be too far to turn back.
I climbed one of the high peaks in the Adirondack mountains last December with friend Mike Covey and his friend Brett. We started hiking at 7:30 in the morning and didn’t reach the summit until early afternoon. There we were met with vicious below zero winds that threatened to knock us on our asses… I took a brief glance at the view (which was incredible) but then turned and immediately started back down, cursing the crazy idea that had caused this 54 year old guy to climb a fvcking mountain with two guys in their mid twenties…
of course it got dark well before we got back to the car. The last couple of hours I was exhausted and sore and kind of pissed off that I had let these guys talk me into far more mountain than I really wanted to climb. But at the same time I affirmed to myself that, “You know, tomorrow I will be proud that I did this.” So that’s what I focused on. As well as focusing on getting back to the car safely and in one piece. So the mental part is crucial. But the visioning MUST be accompanied by intelligent consistent action.
Self Motivated Action Tools
1. Focus on what you want.
Focus on arriving at your destination. But then put one foot in front of the other until you get there. Appreciate every detour and challenge on this path as an opportunity to take your shit to the next level.
Looking back from your death bed you will be glad that you took the opportunity to actually LIVE.
2. Ask yourself empowering Why and How Questions.
This forces your Unconscious Mind to begin to build “evidence procedures”, new beliefs and even convictions that support the presuppositions in the question. The one I suggest in the video is “Why is this Perfect?” You do not have to consciously answer the question. Just ask it repeatedly and your Unconscious Mind will do the rest. With each step coming down off that mountain near the end of my endurance, I literally counted my footsteps and chanted, “Why is this perfect?” as well as, “Why does this work out better than I can possibly imagine?”
3. Begin. Take Action. Keep going.
Reflect periodically to make sure you are still on the right path and how to do it better, more effectively, more enjoyably, more intelligently
