11738504_mOne of my favorite health and Nutrition sources is Dr. Joseph Mercola. I find most of his articles to be helpful and well grounded in research.

Today I want to share with you a key concept that is foundational for you if you want to lose what I called “excess stored energy” (otherwise known as fat).

The one thing we all do more than any other generation in the history of human kind is…

SIT.

Then we go to work and sit all day. Then we come home and sit some more. Right now I’m sitting at my desk typing this. Sometimes I get immersed in what I’m working on and HOURS go by.

NOT good! :o)

Interesting Story

I have a quick weight loss success story to share with you today.

I was at rehearsal of the music team at Unity Church In Albany a couple of weeks ago and my friend Penny told me the following cool “secret”:

“Mark, I went to your Weight Loss Bootcamp Free Intro up in Clifton Park last March with my friend “Mary” (not her real name), I think you should know that she has lost 20 pounds! She credits that free weight loss class and your hypnosis session that you did with the group.”

How is THAT for cool?

“Mary” did NOT join our ten week bootcamp. But she lost weight ANYWAY!

The point I’m trying to make here is that our free weight loss intro is quite literally filled with as much value and helpful information as we can possibly cram in to it.

Ultimately I believe that the ten week boot camp is so powerful because not only do you have the fabulous Bethany Gonyea and myself supporting you each week, you have your class mates so you can realize that you are NOT alone.

The major cause of weight loss failure is lack of consistent, sustainable new eating, exercise and THINKING habits.

We take care of that!

Want To Lose Weight AND Avoid Alzheimer’s or Dementia?

Did you know that dementia and Alzheimer’s disease is on of the three top causes of death in the United States?

If that doesn’t freak you out enough to pay attention and do something different I don’t know what else will…

An estimated 5.4 million Americans have Alzheimer’s disease, a severe form of dementia,1 and hundreds of thousands more may suffer from an often misdiagnosed subtype called “hippocampal sparing” Alzheimer’s, according to recent findings.2

Most main line medical practitioners are somewhat stuck in the place of not knowing what to do…

There doesn’t seem to be any cure.

But there is something we can do for prevent this horrible fate.

If you are struggling with your weight and possibly addicted to carbs, and  would like to keep your marbles for your full lifespan AND lose weight, this interview is a MUST watch.

I’ve written elsewhere about the book “Grain Brain” by Dr. David Perlmutter. Here is a short quote that is relevant:

“[Alzheimer’s] is a preventable disease. It surprises me at my core that no one’s talking about the fact that so many of these devastating neurological problems are, in fact, modifiable based upon lifestyle choices… What we’ve crystallized it down to now, in essence, is that diets that are high in sugar and carbohydrates, and similarly diets that are low in fat, are devastating to the brain.When you have a diet that has carbohydrates in it, you are paving the way for Alzheimer’s disease. I want to be super clear about that. Dietary carbohydrates lead to Alzheimer’s disease. It’s a pretty profound statement, but it’s empowering nonetheless when we realize that we control our diet. We control our choices, whether to favor fat or carbohydrates.”

What amazes me is how few of my clients are willing to actually take me up on my challenge to read “Grain Brain” and but it into practice. One of my clients did. And he lost 36 pounds in a very short time… Then he returned the book to the library and started sliding back to his old carb habits.

What do you have to lose? A lot.

Want to know what to eat? Turn the standard “Food Pyramid” upside down!

Here’s a summary run-down of diet-related strategies that will help optimize your brain function and prevent Alzheimer’s:

  • Avoid sugar and refined fructose.Ideally, you’ll want to keep your sugar levels to a minimum and your total fructose below 25 grams per day, or as low as 15 grams per day if you have insulin/leptin resistance or any related disorders.
  • Avoid gluten and casein (primarily wheat and pasteurized dairy, but not dairy fat, such as butter). Research shows that your blood-brain barrier is negatively affected by gluten. Gluten also makes your gut more permeable, which allows proteins to get into your bloodstream, where they don’t belong. That then sensitizes your immune system and promotes inflammation and autoimmunity, both of which play a role in the development of Alzheimer’s.
  • Optimize your gut flora by regularly eating fermented foods or taking a high-potency and high-quality probiotic supplement.
  • Increase consumption of all healthy fats, including animal-based omega-3. Health-promoting fats that your brain needs for optimal function are listed above. Also make sure you’re getting enough animal-based omega-3 fats, such as krill oil. (I recommend avoiding most fish because, although fish is naturally high in omega-3, most fish are now severely contaminated with mercury.) High intake of the omega-3 fats EPA and DHA help by preventing cell damage caused by Alzheimer’s disease, thereby slowing down its progression, and lowering your risk of developing the disorder.
  • Reduce your overall calorie consumption, and/or intermittently fast. Ketones are mobilized when you replace carbs with coconut oil and other sources of healthy fats. As mentioned above intermittent fasting is a powerful tool to jumpstart your body into remembering how to burn fat and repair the inulin/leptin resistance that is also a primary contributing factor for Alzheimer’s.   • Improve your magnesium levels. There is some exciting preliminary research strongly suggesting a decrease in Alzheimer’s symptoms with increased levels of magnesium in the brain. Unfortunately, most magnesium supplements do not pass the blood brain levels, but a new one, magnesium threonate, appears to and holds some promise for the future for treating this condition and may be superior to other forms.
  • Eat a nutritious diet, rich in folate. Vegetables, without question, are your best form of folate, and we should all eat plenty of fresh raw veggies every day. Avoid supplements like folic acid, which is the inferior synthetic version of folate.

Ultimately Weight loss hypnosis is about making new habits and ways of eating easier to start and maintain. You can do all the hypnosis you want but if you don’t actually change your way of eating you will continue to get the same bio-chemical results in your body.

Beliefs Matter

This is an important short video for you to watch.

It demonstrates that what you believe about the food you eat has a measurable effect on the levels of a hormone that tells your body whether you have satisfied your hunger or not. Obviously, since I’m a hypnotherapist, I believe that the power of your Mind is the missing piece that “reduced calorie diets” do not address.

That’s why in “It’s Not Just About The Food” Weight Loss Bootcamp we do so much work around taking charge of our beliefs and using NLP and Hypnosis to change them.

What we think becomes our reality

Our thoughts create our internal “reality” which in turn creates our behaviors and external experiences of the world.

Finding a Weight Loss Coach

I had a bit of a “realization” this morning about the role I play as a weight loss coach or weight loss hypnotist or NLP Practitioner.

Whatever label you want to use, the reason I do the work I do is because ultimately, if you were able to solve this problem (or challenge) in your life, you would have already done so.

Am I right?

Working with a teacher or a coach or a mentor or with a “master mind” group gives us access to different perspectives as well as the resources and experiences of another person or group of people who have already done what we ourselves seek to accomplish. It just makes practical sense to seek guidance and support outside of our own little “cage”  of “reality.”

So this may be helpful for you, I certainly hope so, if not, that’s okay too :o)

You don’t have to go it alone.

Knowing what to do, and how to do it, can sometimes only take you so far. Sometimes it takes a bit of coaching, encouragement, motivation and someone in your corner to help you reach your goals.
